With the rise in obesity in our country and our youth, it is imperative that Physical Educators take a stronger stance on fitness now. What does this mean? We already have PE curriculum that is research based, aligned to the State and National Standards for Physical Education. We already teach skills and concepts that promote physical activity and health. What else can we do? How about a chaotic Physical Education classroom? Or rather, organized chaos that truly engages your Z-Generation students in physical activity? In my classroom, I want organized chaos that excites my students so much that they will take what they’ve learned in class to recess, and home!

With obesity continuing to climb at staggering heights, our students are suffering from illnesses typically seen in adults. We as Physical Educators, don’t have time to sit still, time is of the essence! We need our PE curriculum to not only move and excite our students from the time they enter our gym to the time they exit, but to intertwine health standards into our PE classrooms. Our student demographics have changed dramatically and we need our students to “learn to love” physical activity again! We need to improve engagement, improve purposeful movement, and improve the “love of play” through active learning.

In this presentation, you will learn fun interactive instant activities that promote student engagement and fitness through active learning! Your “take-aways” from this presentation will make you the “STAR” of your physical education program as your students come alive through active learning, through active play!

Goals:
1. To provide physical educators with fun interactive instant activities/games that will excite their students and increase participation and movement.
2. To provide physical educators with instant activities/games that promote fitness and answer to the State Standards for Physical Education, as well as the National SHAPE Standards for PE.
3. To provide physical educators with up-to-date statistics on our nation’s obesity crisis, and how it affects our students grades K-12.

Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to collect fun interactive instant activities/games that will improve student engagement and participation in PE.
2. Participants will be able to learn how to implement fun interactive instant activities/games that will improve student engagement and participation in PE.
3. Participants will be able to promote health through physical activity to combat the obesity crisis our youth is facing today.
4. Participants will be able to promote health through “student health challenges” to increase healthy habits both in and out of school.
**Note: If I bring PE Methods Students and/or Pre-Service Teacher Candidates to help present, I will up-date that info when needed. Typically 4-7 accompany me in these types of presentations, however I will adjust according to MN SHAPE policy & needs.
